Unlike other types of documents, doctoral theses and master's dissertations are submitted to RepositóriUM through an administrative process. That is, after the public defense and the conclusion of the subsequent administrative procedures, these works are automatically sent by the Pedagogical Councils of the Schools where the dissertations were submitted to the University of Minho’s Documentation and Library Services Unit (USDB), which handles their deposit. Therefore, no additional effort is required from the authors to ensure submission.
Please note that there may be a time gap between the conclusion of the work (i.e., public defense) and its final submission to RepositóriUM. However, if you are the author of a thesis or dissertation approved by the University of Minho and you do not find it available in RepositóriUM, you may contact us so we can check its status and, if applicable, proceed with its deposit and dissemination.
Important notes:
The submission of the request for public defense is an independent academic process that precedes the administrative delivery of final works to RepositóriUM. This request must be submitted through the Electronic Secretariat of the Academic Portal, available at: https://alunos.uminho.pt/PT
To ensure the smooth submission of the request for public defense, it is recommended that students prepare it well in advance. The student must ensure that their academic status at UMinho is in order and that they have all the required documents, some of which may depend on third parties (e.g., advisor's approval) or take time to obtain (such as the academic transcript, which is mandatory for doctoral students).
In any case, it is mandatory to submit the declaration for RepositóriUM deposit purposes (click here to access it), duly completed and signed.
More information about this procedure is available at: https://alunos.uminho.pt/PT/estudantes/Paginas/requerimentoprovas.aspx
If you have any questions regarding the request for public defense, you may also contact the respective Academic Unit (Course Secretariat).
